ooooooooohhhhhhhhhh, i feel humbled right out. think if i ever make it over there, will be a spectator. i have about 300 tunes in my head, but get the feeling that it would be woefully inadequate. We have sheet music nazi's over here, but i tell them whatever crutch makes the sound better is fine by me. Especially if you can read fast! would be alot more convenient than memorizing things all the time! Gypsy, you don't have to make it "over there" to find an Irish session. There are many places in the US, Canada, and elsewhere, where Irish ex-pats ( not pun intended...)and other desperate types congregate to play Irish music. We are everywhere and nearer then you might think! <<Aye Gypsy, but I just wonder what a Mother-in-Law would be worth these days?>>Depends on the Mother in Law in question. Mine...About 5 quid on a good day...

Suspect i would be a spectator regardless of the location, if they all play by the same rules. Sounds pretty daunting to me..........we do have the occasional irish session here, but i haven't gone in ages...........too small a space for me hd, and i don't leave home without it.........

Aye Gypsy, but I just wonder what a Mother-in-Law would be worth these days?
Or, put another way, what would a fella accept as a trade for his Mother-in-Law?
A sewing needle & a bicycle with only one wheel, perhaps? ;D it would be according to the mitherinlaw, yes? if she could MILK the cow, and tune the dulcimer...........hmmmmmmmmmmm..........

Well, the fact is Gypsy, I am blessed for you see, my Mother-in-Law can't speak any English & I can't speak any German!

The other good thing in my Mother-in-Law's favour is that she lives far, far away in Northern Germany! ;D
To be honest though, she is in fact a lovely lady & I get on with her very well & that is the real way I am blessed, in that dept.

<< Well, the fact is Gypsy, I am blessed for you see, my Mother-in-Law can't speak any English & I can't speak any German!>> BRILLANT!!!!! They are numerous German/Irish households in this area, otherwise teaming with various Scandinavians. Lovely folks. Most pleasant. I figure that's how my mother's family got along... the Scots Irish have their own dialect of English (or cant, I'm not sure which) and the Greeks spoke...Greek. Family arguments tended to be one-sided and brief!!! (and with ample hand gestures...)Family reunions are particularly amusing... On topic...I brought my dulce to an local Irish session last night at a newly opened pub I'd not been too. Everyone was very nice and asked intelligent questions about the instrument. Maybe other musicians are getting the idea the dulcimers aren't pure evil??
