Hi! I'm a 30 year old folkmusician from Norway. Beside traditional singing (kveding), I play the langeleik. Today, the most known type of langeleik is from the valleys of Valdres (somewhere between Oslo and Trondheim), but this old instrument is known from almost all regions of Norway. In Valdres there have been a non-stop-trad, but nowadays also the langeleik from other areas have gotten their renaissance. I play the Valdres-type and a newly reconstructed langeleik from the valley Kvinesdal (the southernmost valley in Norway). The folkmusicgroup in this county got a load of money from a banke, to build these instruments and learn people to play it. A man in Kvinesdal builds, and I teach. We are going to teach a new course at the end of the month. I'll post some pics. The next project is to get reconstructed and built the langeleik from the neighbourcounty. It's a huge job to find materiale to play. Since the tradition is broken here (for about 100 years...), there are no notes or sounds or sources to help. So, we are working with transferring old tunes back from fiddle, hardangerfiddle, jew's harp and song. It's a slowgoing, but interesting work! I also play the hungarian citera and estonian kannel. And I really wish to get me a swedish hummel and a danish humle.
