Please tell us a little bit about yourself, your music & your Dulcimers. Hi "Ptarmigan" and Everyone Else, too, Thank you for approving my registration. I'm happy to be here in the Dulcimer Players Forum. I play mountain dulcimer, and my daughter has a small hammered dulcimer, but she took up the tuba during high school and hasn't played her hammered dulci much. My first mountain dulcimer was a walnut, standard, Mcspadden, given to me as a gift in 1990, just after my daughter's first birthday. I played my first dulci for a while and put it aside when my daughter was old enough to begin pushing it out of my lap. My daughter is 19 and in college now, and she has stopped pushing my dulcimer out of my lap! I have been able to enjoy playing regularly for the past 13 or so years. Being true to dulcimer enthusiasm, I have acquired several dulcimers; but, my every-day-favorite dulcimers are two which were built here in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, near my home, by my friend/luthier, Bob Magowan. I play and do some voluntary performing with my standard (plus 1 1/2 fret) tarara [canary] wood Magowan and my baritone tarara, double back, chromatic mountain dulcimer. For the past three years, I have played my mountain dulcimers with friends who play autoharp, guitar, and mandolin. We have enjoyed playing in nursing homes, church parties, and in a summertime educational community program at the Memphis Zoo on a voluntary basis. I'm here to get to know other dulcimer enthusiasts and continue the learning and enjoyment I get through our dulcimer world. Thanks again for helping me register and join you. Carla, I notice you play in "nursing homes & the Memphis Zoo"! I used to take a bunch of young students to the local nursing homes each month, so I know what that audience can be like ..... I'd say probably very similar to the ones you get in the Zoo! e.g. some falling asleep, some chatting amongst themselves & some even clapping along. ;D By the way, did you get a white Christmas in Memphis, Tennessee, this year? Cheers Dick

By the way, did you get a white Christmas in Memphis, Tennessee, this year? Cheers Dick No, not at all a white Christmas. The temperature was icy cold a few days before Christmas and then in the 60's and sunny on Christmas. That's Memphis.
