Hello everyone! I'm a kantele player from Finland and my passion is the 19th century Karelian kantele improvisation. I've got 5-, 10-, 11-, 14-, 15-, 36- and 37-string kanteles with different shapes and structures and with steel, bronze and horse hair strings. I love the amazing variety of timbres in different kanteles - even one sound seems to contain more information than any words can tell..

WOW! That's quite a collection you have there. I wonder, have you posted photos of them anywhere? I have no doubt you can be so much more expressive, when you are using your fingers on the strings, rather than just bashing them with hammers as us Dulcimer players do! Cheers Dick

There are pictures of some of my kanteles in the Gallery of my website (www.temps.fi).
In fact, in addition to plucking by fingertips, nowadays kantele players use also sticks, picks, slides, bows etc.
