Here is some information on the Summer Folk Camp at Gooik, Belgium - 21st-26th August 2007,
which I gleaned from the pages of the
Nonsuch Dulcimer Club Website
PLAYING DULCIMER IN BELGIUM
Belgium: Summer folk camp at Gooik, 21st-26th August 2007.
Gooik, Domein Uidekrij, Bronnenweg 2.
The 29th annual practice of traditional folk music in Belgium also features a five days intensive workshop hammered dulcimer under the guidance of Christie Burns (USA). Other sessions are: hurdy-gurdy, Flemish pipes, diatonic and chromatic accordion, hummel, fife, violin, mouth organ, dance, voice, guitar in DADGAD, music ensemble and calligraphy.
The practice takes place at Gooik, a small rural commune in the ‘pajottenland’ at 20 kilometers distance from Brussels. This is the countryside where the famous ‘geuze-lambiek’ is brewed.
About 30 workshops take place at different venues in the village with 400 participants. This means that folk is taking over the day-to-day life of the local community for five days.
You camp out on three camping sites in the village. We take care of the catering (vegetarian catering possible). Every evening two concerts take place in the local Romanesque church. In the late evening a folk group takes over and plays folk ball in the central venue. The theme of this year’s annual practice will be the voice.
There is also a day and an evening program for children.
You can visit the Festival Website
Huis van de levende traditie, Wijngaardstraat 5, 1755 Gooik 003225322838
Prices:
€225 first member of the family
€205 second and next members of the family
