Gypsy, raised an interesting question, with her recent comment:Does anyone here get the impression that their Dulcimer actually has a gender?
If so, why?
What, about it's "personality", gives you the feeling that it's either a macho male or a gentle female?
Personally, I get the feeling that mine are probably more likely to be hermaphrodites, capable of a wide variety of emotions!
Mind you, just imagine if Dulcimers had genders & were capable of reproducing! 
Can you even begin to imagine your anticipation, when you were waiting for your lady Masterworks to give birth, after being locked in the music room with a male Dusty Strings, a few months earlier? ;D
Or picture your anger, when finding out that your top of the range James Jones had run off into the bushes, at your last festival, with a cheap & nasty 'Do it yourself Kit' - from the other side of the tracks!
I better stop now, cause I can hear the man with the white coat coming along the corridor to give me my overdue medicine!

snickersnickersnicker.......DEFINITELY female. I know the shape....see it everyday in the mirror...small on top, big on bottom LOL!

Definitely female.
Dulce meaning sweet.
Gentle slow lullabies played with felt lined hammers, then fast paced reels and jigs played quite furiously and loud.
Totally reflects the menstrual cycle !!
