Yep - see, Dick. There are younger people out there learning the dulcimer! Thank you Harriet, for keeping dulcimer players out of the Old Fart category.

Unfortunately Rick, with Harriet playing her Dulcimer beside me, I think I might tend to feel older rather than younger!
Schucks Rick, the kids in school have never even heard of a Black & White TV, a threepenny bit or a Tanner!
Cheers Dick

Cheers Dick Ditto - a Tanner? Now I've heard of B&W TV - even had one. But that was after we had the console radio - it was a cabinet that sat on the floor - a piece of furniture. Now, not bein' from around there, I'm not familiar with the three penny bit. I've heard of the tune The Ten Penny Bit. I just found out what a Pieces of Eight was, but that was a little before your time, wasn't it, Dick? I think Harriet is safe, though. Age isn't contagious. And as for kids there not knowing certain things, kids on both sides of the pond, for the most part, don't know where their food comes from. They think, as Charlie Gillen, I think, said, "their praties come from the grocery". But, since Harriet is starting to play the dulcimer, it shows her great wisdom. As someone said recently, "The accumulated wisdom of the years finally brought us to our senses and we started to play dulcimers!"

Thanks Harriet, by joining, you have probably just halved the average age of the membership here! ;D
Cheers DickWhoops, in which case I've just pushed it all back upwards again ;D ;D At a certain narrow gauge railway that I go to we use 'Old Pharts' to try and raise the tone Cheers Peter

Why, ... yes... it would appear we are... mostly. ;D As my avatar, which greets either hubby or me, containing the morning beverage of choice, each morn, will attest.

Oh dear - I've just joined (age 63) - which has probably raised the fart profile... Sorry about that!
Cheers,
Will

Gee, I guess I "upped" it back up -just a little- when I joined. Sorry about that! If anybody notices this post (as this is an old thread), could you please tell me what attracted you to the dulcimer in the first place? As I've said before, (on another forum) I was a guitar accompanist for a hammered dulcimer player and fell in love with the lively traditional and Celtic music. I was also intrigued by beautiful sound of the instrument. Could it be that we "old farts" are waxing nostalgic for music that we heard in our distant past and have a (hitherto unrecognized) desire to to preserve it? If you've ever played for an audience of rest home residents, you may have noticed that they enjoy the lively music the most. (Truthfully, how far are some of us from their age?) Didn't many of us, when we were young, go for the lively beat of "rock'n roll" music? Maybe that is why we dulcimer players are a bunch of old farts!
