Hi there and thanks for the welcome!! How cool with a European dulcimer forum!! By the way Dick - I put some friend requests for you at My Space - I hope you'll see which one is from me (maybe the name otfiddler will ring a bell...). For everyone who hasn't received an e-mail from me, I'm a Swedish lady, 33 years old, and I work in the medical field (respiratory medicine, but my goal and dream is to work with cancer care and palliative care), I'm a registered nurse. I'm married but have no kids, only two cats and a good bunch of musical instruments. I'm an oldtimey music enthusiast, as well as bluegrass/country/trad music enthusiast. I play the mandolin since 11 years, the fiddle since 3 years, and I'm learning (ok, take a deep breath now) to play Irish bouzouki, tin whistle, English concertina, melodeon, acoustic guitar (mostly Maybelle Carter style), and I've also tried clawhammer banjo a little, not sure if I'll go on with that... Well, and yes, I'm very interested in learning to play the Appalachian dulcimer. I'm looking for one in Europe, because I don't want to pay a fortune for shipping and toll and stuff. I play in an oldtime band, the mandolin, but really, my passion is the fiddle. We're going to an oldtime convent in Denmark soon, can't wait.. and you'll never know, maybe they sell dulcimers there? ?? Well, that's some about me.

Hello otfiddler,
I'm afraid I can't get into MySpace right now so, sorry if I haven't answered any messages from you, over there.
Good to have another Old Time enthusiast amongst us here. You will let me know if your group decides to tour Ireland, won't you?
Oh, & don't forget to let us know if you manage to pick up a Mountain Dulcimer in Denmark.
Incidentally, have you checked out this English maker of Mountain Dulcimers?Matthew J. BascettaI'm afraid I know nothing about his instruments, but if you asked here, perhaps some of our members may have come across them.
Cheers Dick

Hi Dick!!
Thanks for the link to the English maker - his prices are a bit high though, since I'm such a total beginner and I don't want to pay so much for the first instrument, when I don't even know how it's like to play this instrument.
Actually, at least my husband and myself are planning a trip to Ireland next year (late summer, beginning of autumn, all depending on my job). We haven't decided anything yet, more than that we want to go to the Cork and Kerry area. We've both lived in Cork or surroundings and it'll be so nice to go back!!!
