Hello Jel & welcome to the Dulcimer Player's Forum.
We are all delighted that you are now a member and we look forward to your contributions to the discussions here.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself, your music & your Dulcimers.
Then, why not hop over to our Where are you? poll and click on your own area! N.B. I'm sorry Belgium isn't an option there, but at least you'll have a SPOT on the ClustrMap!
Cheers 'Ptarmigan'

Jel's a kind of Eurocrat, based in Brussels keeping us safe at night. A 53-year-old polymath, he's been playing gut-strung celtic harp for 20 years, and has had an East German Musima 15/15 Hackbrett around for those times he wants wire-strung sounds, as it's not possible technically to play both wire- and gut-strung harps with his kind of fat fingers (all to do with fingernails etc, but that's a different thread). His outside interests are a masters in mediaeval philosophy, and maintaining his polymathy. As far as technical skills are concerned on the chopping-board, treat me as an absolute beginner.

Hi Jel, Welcome aboard. It's great to have yet another Hackbrett BASHING European amongst us! ;D Sorry I haven't included Belgium on the Geo~list. Unfortunately it's not possible to add it on now. But hey, look on the bright side, at least you have your very own spot, on the ClustrMap below. Cheers Dick

Looking at your profile, clarsachs at dawn! I was also looking at the span of your group, it might be worth droppinbg Paul Jennison a line on jennisonmusic@yahoo.co.uk - he's a reasonable autoharp player I came across in York a while back.

Yes we bought an Autoharp for Sabine to play but it's not so easy to learn when there aren't any players living locally. Checking YouTubes, you see that there are so many different styles of playing, too.
Like a number of instruments, it looks like it's pretty easy to play very simply on one, but pretty tricky to play really well.

Hello Dick, I didn't know Sabine had an autoharp. A Nonsuch Club member called Bernard Duffield is a serious autoharp man and a great player. He originally joined Nonsuch because there wasn't an organisation for autoharpists/autoharpers ( ) in the UK and his instruments have plenty of wires too! He's been to all the Nonsuch autumn weekends and a couple of years ago or so he started an autoharp organisation. I can't remember what it's called, but why not get in contact with Bernard via the Nonsuch members directory? Jenny4dulc.

Thanks for the tip Jenny.
It's hard trying to make sense of the strange beastie that is the Autoharp, when there's nobody around here who plays the darn thing, so I will contact your friend Bernard.
Cheers Dick
