Hello there everyone, thanks for the warm welcome!
A bit about myself.. Well I'm a professional musician - a percussionist. I'm freelance but over the last few years have been working a lot at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford Upon Avon (and touring). For the next show which starts in a couple of weeks I will be playing Cimbalom. I met the instrument properly for the first time yesterday and of course the 'unique' tuning system is proving fun to get around!! Due to the bank holiday weekend, I have been given what was explained to me as a 'portable cimbalom' to take home and use until Tuesday. This is also the instrument I will have to lug to Clapham next week for a rehearsal day. After trying to tune it this morning and realising that it wasn't going to work due to the bridges being in the wrong place, I have searched all day on the internet for an instrument that looks like mine. Finally on your forum I have found it.... It's a Tambal Mic. So now thanks to you I have found a tuning chart for this instrument and I have spent a couple of hours playing it this afternoon. So basically in the space of a week I have to become proficient on both the Tambal Mic and the Cimbalom, neither of which I had played before yesterday! To say it's a steep learning curve would be an understatement! I wanted to join the forum to add some pics of the Tambal Mic incase anyone wanted to discuss this and maybe let people know how my work on the cimbalom goes. It would also be nice to be able to ask questions of the more experienced members if any arise.
Sarah
