I've recently completed my first ever mountain dulcimer. The design was in the book "Making Wooden Folk Instruments" by Dennis Waring.
The body is from American Cherry and the fingerboard is from Walnut. I used banjo fretwire and machine heads.
I do have a few photographs but can't seem to get them uploaded - any clues ?
Regards
Peter

Congratulations Peter! ;D It must be a wonderful feeling to play an instrument that you have actually made yourself. I played a Comb & Paper one day .... that I put together myself! But somehow, I don't think that counts! For photos I find the easiest way is to join either: Photobucketor WebshotsGood Luck. I look forward to seeing those photos. Cheers Dick

Thanks for the tips Dick, here goes You're so right the moment when the first sound came from it was quite special. The action is still a bit on the high side so a bit of settling in to do yet, then learn how to play it. While that's going on the next project will be a hammered dulcimer to Charlie Alm's design, starting soon Kind regards and a very Happy New Year Peter

Great looking instrument Peter. Well done indeed. & you say you knocked that up in just an afternoon eh! So I reckon it'll probably take you maybe a whole day to make the Hammered Dulcimer then! ;D But seriously, the best of luck with your next project! I'm afraid I just don't have the patience to make things. Anyway, I'm glad you got the photos sorted out too. Cheers Dick
