I found my good camera this afternoon so here, as promised, are a few photos of my new treasured Rick Thum 17/17.
You get a good view of my foldaway Director's Chair, which I find is a super Dulcimer stand, with it's very handy seat which doubles as a table for all my bits & bobs.
Here it is again with a view of the lovely, quiet country, County Antrim lane we live on, in the background. Here's a view of the top with the sound holes which are so very handy for clipping on my Electronic Tuner. Here's a side-on shot showing off her lovely Tiger stripes! Note the weeds in the background! Well, who cares about weeds when you can be playing a great Dulcimer like this Rick Thum 17/17.Here is my arsenal including my most trusted Jill Weimer & Laser Elegance Hammers.

Wow! You've got more hammers than I do! You must have A.B.C.S. - Acquired Beater Collecting Syndrome in addition to A.M.I.S. ;D

Yeah Rick, I wanted to make sure I was using the best Hammers I could find, before I got too comfortable, using the wrong ones!
If you look at that photo you'll see that most of my early Hammers, most of those to the right end, are shorter than my later ones. The short ones are fine for my Oakwood, but as my Rick Thum is so much larger & because I always sit to play, [ I did say PLAY ] I find I need the slightly longer ones to be able to play the high notes comfortably.
I have some terrific Laser Elegance Hammers now, especially my latest Thistle ones with Dalriada engraved on the barrel. However, if I'm honest, my absolute favourites right now are the long ones Jill Weimer made for me. They just feel so, so comfortable in my hands & both the balance & the weight seem just perfect, for me.
Having so many Hammers though means that learning new tunes & even just practicing is so much more fun, cause once I start getting the hang of a tune, then I just play it over & over again & again, using different hammers each time!
........................ & then I remember what I really should have been doing for the past 90 minutes!
Cheers Dick
