Hello all!
I have already sent Ptarmigan a history of my experience with the hammered dulcimer but for anyone who may be interested:
My name is Ed.
I live west of Chicago, IL USA but east of the Mississippi.
My main instrument is mandolin but I have a Songbird Warbler, 17/16/8, made by Chris Foss that I picked up used on Ebay. Other makers always ask me if it stays in tune acceptably but will never elaborate on the subject when asked. Does anyone have any history on this?
I am a play anything I can understand (dare I say) musician. I play mostly traditional musics, American, Irish/Scots/English/...can I say "Celtic", and played alot of Chinese traditional years ago in college. I once worked up "When you wish upon a star" and "Dreams are a wish your heart makes" (Disney tunes) for some 'music to pick your seat by' at a wedding. Like I said, anything I can understand.
I look forward to learning about others' musical traditions on this site.
Ed

Yup Ed, I got that history & very interesting it is too. I'm often tempted to post what folks say in their registration e-Mail, but I feel it's safer not to, just in case they've written something they'd rather not tell the World about. But please feel free to wax lyrical here. Cheers Dick P.S. As I read here about your Songbird Warbler a Robin was singing it's dawn chorus, right outside my window!

Welcome, Ed!
I can't tell you about your model of dulcimer, but I often play my friend's Chris Foss 15/14 and have found no tuning problems with it, myself. She has had it for 13 years and to my knowledge, has had no complaints thus far.
