hi everybody, I'm working on a great scots tune, called Flowers of the Forest. I'm learning it from a pipe version by Kathryn Tickell. But as always, I like to know if there are other versions, and of course if someone already worked it out on HD. I found a score on the net, but it's not at all the same version. Has anyone the original score ? it'd be rela great if some one could send it to me, in PDF, or even ABC (I have the ABC navigator, so I can convert it - I'm afraid I don't read to well ABC...)... I'll exchange it with a nice swiss tune... thanks

Thanks Dick, but I've already been through the Sesh.... I'm looking for a more "authentic" version, on score, or a more HammeredDulcimerish version... The sesh version isn't the same as Tickell's... more like a waltz than a Lament (as they say in the comments)

Hope it helps. Ed

I have a version of this that I arranged for hammered dulcimer. Does anyone know how I can upload the PDF so I can share it with everyone?

There's a free program you can download, called Cute writer. it goes with your printer : when you go on print for your file, chose Cutewriter, it copies your file in PDF, and you can send it as you want by email. Works very well, I do it all the time, making sibelius files in PDF... If you could send it, t'would be great ! (we could have a new thread with such files... ABC and sheet music...

www.freesheetmusic.net/oneills6/TheFlowersOfTheForest.pdfNot sure if this helps. I really can't imagine this tune played on the dulcimer. The dulcimer being a rather cheerful instrument. It is usually played on pipes for the drone carries the lament and also the military feel, or sung acapella. Let us know how you get on and would love to hear a good dulcimer rendition.

Okay, so I turned the tune into a jpeg and just uploaded it to my photobucket account because I can not figure out how to upload them onto this forum. Please keep in mind that I did not intend this to be a fancy version. I wanted a simple and haunting tune to play before The Flowers of Edinburgh and this sounded really good to go with it (I call it the flower set). Enjoy! Oh, crap! I spelled arrangement wrong! Oh well..

thanks everyone dulcetta, I downloaded the O'Neill version, but I don't like it... As for playing Laments, I use a style we have in Switzerland (that I think Jim Cooper used a bit) : notes held by long tremolos, also done on 2 notes, which can give glissandi-like effects, and goes very well for slow tunes cooper, thanks a lot for the jpeg !
