Over the years I have made several instruments many of them experimental, okay a few have been dulcimers...but... much of what I make is playable artcraft and use in exhibitions, I'm a member of a fine artcraft group we have just had an exhibition (my submission was a six string fettles instrument), the next one isn't for a couple of years so time on my side.
I have been thinking something on the lines of the HD, so I will start doing some research into what is required in the way of materials and design, form what I have read so far it would appear many have the sound board made from 3ply, don't think I will go down that road, rather use a slab of solid timber...now...finding one 40cms wide could be my first problem...so.. my first question .. can the sound boards be made from a couple of strips of timber ? Col
PS I'm a retired printer/photographer so once this project is underway get ready for plenty of pictures ;D

Good luck with that project. I look forward to seeing photos of the finished article, sorry instrument. Reminds me of a Derry man I met recently, who saw a photo of a H D & decided to make himself one, but when he finished it he just could not understand why he could never ever tune it, until he discovered that you must use a wee bit of scaffolding inside! So he threw it on the bonfire & started again & he was very pleased with his 2nd attempt. Cheers Dick

dick after looking at your site.. one thing is clear this place is a real treasure trove.. my first thought was the HD now I'm wondering what else it could look at...a couple of things I like on some of my instruments is inlay and curved parts..reckon one of the Eastern design may be the go. sample of my inlay
