Traditional Mountain Dulcimer.
This 4-string dulcimer was hand-made by master craftsman Michael W. Fluegge, formerly of Hamburg/Germany. It was finished in April, 1983. Serial No. 008.
The instrument was made of all solid quartersawn American black walnut. The head and the fretboard are laminated with a maple core. The fretboard has a thick overlay of black ebony. Mother-of-pearl dots are positioned at 3rd ,7th, 10th, and 14th fret. The fretboard is fretted diatonically without the additional 6 1/2 fret. The elegantly shaped headstock holds four guitar tuning machines, the nut and the bridge are made of bone. The soundholes are 'C' and 'F' shaped. Purfling inlays are in the center strip of the back and around the top. In addition this dulcimer has a binding made of light wood. The fretboard is arched.
Dimensions as follows: open string length 670 mm, overall body length 710 mm, width at widest point 195 mm, body height between top and back 45 mm, overall length 900 mm.
