I was minding my own business this afternoon, sitting in costume playing Medieval Music in Dunluce Castle on the Causeway Coast of North Antrim, Ireland, when yet another stranger came into our dungeon. When I asked if he'd like to play my Dulcimer, he nodded & said sure. So as I handed him the Hammers, I started explaining what a Hammered Dulcimer was, but he just took off into a great tune ... with a big GRIN on his face! Over here, only once in a blue moon does someone come along who even knows what an HD is, NEVER MIND BEING ABLE TO PLAY THE DARN THING, so he knew he was going to catch me out. Anyway, perhaps some of you folks know him. His name Is Cameron & he is on holiday in Ireland, with his partner ...... & boy can he play a Hammered Dulcimer. It was a very pleasant surprise & really made my day. If your reading this Cameron, enjoy the rest of your holiday. Cheers Dick P.S. We were playing in a room in the tower, on the far right of that photo.

So, they've put you in the tower, eh, Ptarm? Pretty cool encounter. Don't get that much here or there.

Jack, he was from the East coast somewhere, cause he knew Christie & the Chattanooga crowd. As for his music, he played that flowery, fluffy nebulous kind of music, that I hear a lot of American HD players play on YouTube. He also played a few of his 'own tunes' which were along the same lines. Not exactly my cup of tea to be honest, me being a hard core Irish/Scots Trad man with a little Old Time thrown in, for good measure, but then each to their own! Anyway, it was just great to hear another HD player in the flesh oh yes & the 1st time I'd heard someone else play my Oakwood Dulcimer. Cheers Dick

Must be the time of year or something. There was me, playing my dulcimer in Babbity Bowsters ( a pub in Glasgow) when a young lady came up and asked if this was a Scottish instrument I was playing. Turned out she is Swiss and plays the Hackbrett. Talking about Hackbretts, looks like Nikita is having a good time on his travels, www.flickr.com/photos/peteheywood/sets/72157621357524366/Jack

Nice one Jack. I wonder if he'll ever go home again! Jack, perhaps we should invade Switzerland next year? ;D Cheers Dick

Good idea Dick, but I think we should have invaded while Nikita was abroad. I wish I'd managed to meet him (and see his hackbrett) while he was here! After 36 years working for a certain telephone company, I've decided to call it a day. From 1st August I'll be a "gentleman of leisure", so maybe I'll have a chance to get more involved in music now.

Thanks guys. First I have to sort out my garden, which has been a bit neglected the last couple of years. Of course I don't want to over do it so I have to take regular breaks to play some music.
