To some it is just the Mountain Dulcimer, but the fact is this instrument has many different names!
First there are the names for the instrument intself:
Appalachian Dulcimer Hourglass Dulcimer American Dulcimer Mountain Dulcimer Teardrop Dulcimer Plucked Dulcimer Fretted Dulcimer Duck Slammer Lap Dulcimer Hog Fiddle Dulcimore Dulcimer Swinette Scantlin'
Then there are all the other Dulcimerry type instruments that the good old Shietholt has spawned along the way. I'm thinking here of things like the:
Tennessee Music Box Courting Dulcimer Upright Dulcimer Electric Dulcimer Bowed Dulcimer Boxed Dulcimer Travel Dulcimer Galax Dulcimer Stick Dulcimer Dulcinator Banjamer Banjo-Mo Banjimer Dulcibro Dulcitar Dulbro Dulcijo
Did I leave any out?
Cheers Dick

Just wanted to add one other name My family, and the people in the little pocket of Appalachia where we live called the instrument a dulcerine. (Pronounced dull-sir-een) Kendra Ward
