Well, now that I have ten pairs of Hammers, I am wondering what I should use to carry them in.
Up to now I've been using a cardboard box, which is fine, especially as my Laser Elegance Hammers each have their own little velvet pouch, but my cardboard box doesn't exactly look very professional!
Sorry, I know you folks have probably covered this topic a thousand times before but pray tell, does anyone here have any really snazzy way of carrying their Hammers.
Mrs Ptarmigan thought some sort of roll-up leather pouch with individual pockets might look good & fold up to be easily transported. If thick enough Leather was used for the outside I'm sure it would provide sufficient protection, but I suspect this will involve a lot of stitching. Of course, I wouldn't be taking all my Hammers to gigs but it'd be useful to have 4 or 5 pairs available.
Is there anything on the market for carrying a few sets of Hammers or is it really just up to each of us to invent our own contraption?
I have a friend who carries her Gemshorn in an old Tartan Oakcake Tin!
Perhaps I should just use a Tin.
Any ideas?
Cheers Dick

Hi ! I've seen hammer carriers that will hold several pairs of hammers made from a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe. You can get them from String Fever Music. The outside of these carriers is covered with suede, and the inside is lined with fur to protect the hammers. Jilly www.stringfevermusic.com

I've used poly pipe, with threaded on end caps, to keep in my gig bag. A jewelers watch box also works well. On the music stand, i have a couple of speaker wire clips that are just right to hold a pair of hammers. I NEVER leave them out and loose.......invariably, someone will play with them, and then leave them where they can be sat upon. For performing, i made a pretty leather scabbard to hang off my belt. It is pretty solid, and okay for transport. But i like my bulletproof poly for any amount of carry around.

Hey Gypsy, I know H-D players are sometimes not exactly the most popular folk to turn up at Irish Sessions over here, but over there, do you really need.......

perhaps i overstated it............i just tend to get rather overprotective of my hammers. I think it is the drum complex........left alone, people will just grab the things, and where they get set........grrrrrrrrrr! and since my gig bag weighs as much as the dulcimer in it's case, the hammers can turn to kindling quickly. snickersnickersnickersnickerwhatkindashotwouldjahavetobetonailadulcimerhammerat10paces?

I'm beginning to understand Gypsy for although I have ELEVEN pairs now, & I try to use most of them during my practice sessions, I do find myself using one particular pair almost all the time now when playing out anywhere & I would certainly hate it if anything happened to them.
So woe betide the varmint who dares to lay his grubby little paws on them!
Cheers Dick

yep, now ye see why the lassies have 12 pairs of BLACK shoes. Then you can really get into accessorizing! each set of hammers makes a very unique sound, according to what you are playing. I like really soft leathers when doing waltzes.........lots of sustaine, dreamy sound

I can think of worst habits you could spend your money on As a joke, you should make a "weapons case" to mount on your wall and place your hammers in them like it is your hunting rifle collection or something. ...man, I am a dork!

Then you will need to get hammers with little loops on them so you can whip them out and spin them before hammering away!!!
